Malort Shots For Everyone - A Round on Illinois Governor Jay Pritzker's
There's a long, very long, list of things I do not understand. But one at the very top of that list is the current price of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate: $75.53 last for the October '24 contract on CME.
What about all the global supply shocks since the pandemic that sent inflation soaring uncontrollably? How about the fact there are raging conflicts in Europe and the Mideast in and around countries that produce all kinds of energy resources? Does the 2.8% 2Q24 U.S. GDP print - usually a very good thing - not matter, either?
All I know is there must be some macro bulls out there - probably somewhere in Houston; maybe London if I had to guess - who are going out of their minds right now that crude oil prices aren't screaming higher against this macro backdrop.
Honestly, if there is ever a peace deal over Gaza and/or Ukraine, I'll bet WTI trades at a 40 handle. Wouldn't that be nice - on every front. I'll keep you posted if anything materially changes in energy markets.
Just like that, at some point, gas prices gotta creep lower. And that'll be like a mini-tax cut for millions of drivers.
Elsewhere, Chicago goes big time this week, I suppose. The Dems are in town. I think the city is up for the spotlight. I noticed a large police presence by some well-known familiar institutions in The City of Broad Shoulders as I was driving home from some downtown hoops earlier tonight. It's extremely quiet now where I live. Hopefully that's the case citywide all week. Let's have some good speeches, solidify who's running on the Left, and then everyone please get home safely. Please do not forget to tip your waitstaff.
Speaking of which, Illinois Governor Jay Pritzker declared this weekend Malort is the "unofficial shot" of the DNC. Yea; he said this out loud.
Show of hands? Anyone ever try Malort. I'll leave it at this: from my side, a political convention with shots of Malort flying = not a great idea . I might even go so far as to call that a very bad idea. (Dubbed by some a "National treasure" for his drink tips, Governor Pritzker can be seen here in the photo below with former WH Press Secretary Jen Psaki.)
But what the heck do I even know, anyways. Sláinte.
